News is that the Maritime Monitoring and Messaging Microsatellite is ready to be launched in December 2013 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome launch facilities in Kazakhstan, Russia. The satellite project being the brain child of Canada’s Department of National Defence with the Canadian Space Agency and Defence Research and Development Canada has undergone testing successfully at the Canadian Space Agency’s David Florida Laboratory in Ottawa, Ontario. The contract for this project was awarded to the prestigious COM DEV International Ltd. Both
COM DEV along with its subsidiary exactEarth are solely responsible for building, designing and the testing of satellite.
COM DEV International have designed a micro satellite bus and payload which will be very effective in detecting ships through satellite and the future space missions will benefit from this project. The M3M micro-satellite will carry
two payloads both having different functions to perform. The main payload consists of an advanced Automatic Identification System which will be helpful in detecting ships and the second payload, a Low Data Rate communications package which will be helpful in receiving and retransmitting data from isolated earth based transmitters.
COM DEV International Ltd. manufacturers of space hardware subsystems are very thankful to Canadian Space Agency and Defence Research and Development Canada for awarding them this project which they have completed and is now ready for launch in December 2013.
