India has commenced a countdown for the launch of a GSLV-D5 rocket carrying a GSAT-14 communications satellite. The rocket features cryogenic engines to support the heavier cargo. This is necessary if the rocket is to fly the 17 minutes necessary to reach transfer orbit. This is the second attempt at launching a GSLV with the upper stage cryogenics. The first attempt, occurring in April of 2010, failed. The satellite is expected to greatly improve communications for the education and medical fields. The
launch should take place around 5 p.m., August 19th.
